Jay Burgett is a partner and founder at Kucala Burgett Law and regularly advises large multi-national companies on all areas of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on issues related to brand clearance, protection and enforcement across a range of industries and anti-counterfeiting. Jay advises senior business leaders on legal risks/costs/benefits, formulates legal strategies to enable the business to succeed, searches and clearance of marks across geographies, advises and clears multi-million dollar marketing campaigns, manages worldwide disputes and litigation, and serves as lead counsel on product developments and marketing initiatives. Jay regularly assesses risk and clearly explains difficult legal issues to senior business leaders, including clearance and mitigation strategies. Jay also has a great deal of experience in enforcement matters, negotiation of complex agreements, and anticounterfeiting strategies.
Prior to founding Kucala Burgett Law, Jay spent 8 years at Mars, Inc. where he managed team of trademark professionals in a creative, results-oriented workplace on day-to-day counseling, clearance, prosecution, enforcement and advertising reviews. Prior to Mars, Jay spent another 8 years at a trademark law firm where he represented several well-known brands in prominent industries and counseled clients on day-to-day trademark and copyright issues, selection and global clearance of brands and seasonal names, advertising reviews, fashion designs, websites and brand acquisitions.
